Frequently Asked Questions

What areas do you cover?

I am based in Swindon, Wiltshire but will happily travel across Wiltshire and the surrounding counties.

What is the best way to contact you?

I am happy for you to contact me, seven days a week via telephone or using the form on the “Contact Sharon” page- when using this form please provide as much detail as you are able.

Are your services completely non-religious, with no mention of anything spiritual?

No, not at all. As a celebrant I can help you to create a service that is about the whole person, including any spiritual or religious beliefs held. I am very comfortable to provide prayers and readings, songs and music of a religious or spiritual nature in any services I conduct. I am equally happy to help create a service with no religious or spiritual content but which celebrates every aspect of the life being remembered.

How much contact will we have with you before the funeral?

As much as you need. My initial visit will usually 1-2 hours long and any follow up visits approximately an hour, but this can vary and I am completely flexible as giving you the time and support you need will be my priority. I am happy to answer any questions you might have in between visits and help you with any concerns you may have leading up to the funeral. I also work very closely with the funeral directors before and on the day of the funeral service to ensure that everything runs smoothly.

Does every service you take have to be at the crematorium?

No – the funeral service can be at a location of your choice followed by a committal at the crematorium or burial at a designated burial site, or if you wish the committal to precede the service of remembrance this is also an option which I am happy to discuss with you. You may have heard of woodland burial sites and we are fortunate to have this as an option in the local area – something I would be happy to discuss with you.

Does a family member have to speak at the funeral?

No. Some families prefer me to deliver the family tribute or eulogy, based on information provided by them.  This is one of the nicest parts of my role, sitting with people as they share stories and memories, and there will often be smiles and laughter as happy memories come to mind. I will always listen carefully and anything I write will be done carefully, sensitively and, most importantly, accurately. I will always make sure you see and approve a copy of my script before the funeral . If family members or friends would like to speak at the funeral or take part in some other way, but feel a little nervous about doing so, I will be on hand to coach and support you in whatever you wish to do.

Can I plan my own funeral?

Absolutely – yes. For some people it is really important to know who is going to be conducting their funeral and what is going to happen – even down to the detail of what is going to be said. It is an honour to have the privilege of sitting with someone and helping them plan the occasion that will celebrate them.
